During the first part of the trip we ride from the high Pyrenees mountains to Pamplona in three days. We cross some mountains and valleys, we ride through a wonderful forest and we also cycle along a small section of the Camino de Santiago (Way of ST James) pilgrimage route towards Pamplona.
In Pamplona, we do a rest day. But, those who don’t want to rest, can do a short loop ride on a desert nearby or do a tour to visit and eat in a vineyard in La Rioja.
From Pamplona, we ride towards the Basque coast in two wonderful stages. The last day, we mountain bike along the coast, starting in Hondarribia and finishing in San Sebastian.
Participants are picked up in San Sebastian or Biarritz and driven to the accommodation in Hondarribia.
Once in Hondarribia it is time to build the bikes up and store the luggage that won’t be used during the rest of the trip.
20:00 – 20:30 Welcome dinner with traditional local products in a typical restaurant.
A beautiful first day mountain biking in the Pyrenees.
After having breakfast in Hondarribia we load the vans and drive to the Pyrenees.
On the first riding day we ride through two long, fun and flowy ancient downhill trails. Both trails finish in two wonderful medieval towns.
The toughest day in Trans Pyrenees MTB. We start the day with a 15km climb in a beautiful valley that ends in a shepherd’s hut at the top. From here we push the bikes up to reach the top and cross the mountains. After crossing the mountains we ride towards the port of Larrau, under the imposing Mount Orhy, where we finish the first part of the ride and have lunch.
The second part of the day involves mountain biking through the amazing Irati forest, one of the largest beech and fir tree forest in Europe.
We start riding underneath the old Roman tower in Mount Urkulu and from there we join the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. We will ride on the Way of St James as far as Pamplona. During this route we will visit many historical places like the Collegiate Church of Roncesvalles and the crypt of Roland, nephew of Charlemagne.
After three days riding is time for a rest. Pamplona offers a lot of different options for those who want to chill or relax. But, we also have some options for those who don’t want to spend the day in Pamplona.
Desert ride
A relaxed ride in one of the biggest desert areas in Europe. A mix of double and single tracks in a really scenic area. This is an exciting ride that will awaken your senses.
The wildest ride of the Trans Pyrenees mountain bike trip is the 100% singletrack ride, which is in one of the most remote areas in the Basque Country. Tough climbs and pushing, technical zones and very flowy downhills. This ride has everything you can ask for a dream ride.
We ride through an old mining area that was converted into a natural park. The incredible abandoned mining trails, the impressive old beech trees and a tiny mining town with traditional Basque buildings are the highlight of this wonderful ride.
We finally on the Basque coast where we will ride through vibrant sandstone cliffs that once captivated the famous French writer Victor Hugo. Cycling along the coast while listening the sound of the waves and feeling the sea breeze can’t be a better end for an amazing mountain bike holiday.
At the end of the day we go back to our base camp in Hondarribia where we celebrate the feat with a special dinner made with typical products from the region.
Depending on departure time. During the day the guests are transferred to San Sebastian or Biarritz
Once the booking form is filled in we will contact you by mail as soon as possible.
After receiving our confirmation we advice you to organize the travel (book the flight, etc…) as soon as possible, for, if necessary adapt your TRANS PYRENEES MOUNTAIN BIKE HOLIDAY.
The best way to arrive is flying to Bilbao, Biarritz or San Sebastian.
Bilbao
Bilbao’s airport is the biggest one in the area and might be the easiest and cheapest option.
The participants who arrive to Bilbao need to take a bus that goes directly from the airport to San Sebastian. There is a bus every our and it is very easy. In San Sebastian a person from our company will pick you up and transfer you to our base camp in Hondarribia.
Biarritz
Biarritz’s airport is located just 30km from our basecamp. It is not as big as Bilbao’s airport but there are flights from some European cities.
San Sebastian
San Sebastian’s airport is the closest one from our place. But, it is really small and there are only flights from Madrid and Barcelona.
